Toya214 17 Posted July 27, 2016 Hi everyone I am one week post-op and the gas has not moved much. It feels like it squeezes the sternum and releases. Will this ever go away? I go back to work on Monday I don't want to be in meetings with this discomfort. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

Marisa13 11 Posted July 27, 2016 Chewing gum causes gas. It is one of the things they tell you to stop doing. Gas X strips and Mylecon drops worked for me. My gas pains started to subside right around the 1 week mark. It will get better! Don't chew gum, whatever you do! Marisa13 11 Posted August 3, 2016 Yes, my NUT told me at a pre-op appt. You ingest air when you chew gum. No drinking through straws either! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
higher 966 Posted August 3, 2016 I didn't have a gas issue post-op, but one thing my surgeon recommended in addition to walking was getting a back rub.

nevertoolate13 28 Posted August 17, 2016 I am preparing for surgery next month. I am concerned about the gas pains, as after my c section I had the worst gas pains. I asked my surgeon about gas strips and he said I wouldn't need them. I am confused as they seem to be recommended by patients. Do they dissolve in the mouth? I would be concerned if they don't, and end up in the new stomach. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
