The only way to lose weight is I have to exercise

Recommended Posts

@@PRINCESS2218

My weight stalled out when I didn't workout. It broke my honeymoon phase and I realized the weight loss is going to take more work on my part.

Looking back I have no regret. I got to goal in a shorted period of time.

I never had this so-called honeymoon phase. I started working out 3 weeks after surgery and haven't stopped since.

I can lose weight just through diet but for bigger results i add in exercise. I also feel exercise (especially weight/ resistance training) helps with toning, tightening and building a leaner shape.

Exercise is an important part of the process imo. Take it as a challenge and rise up and meet it...just like you've met the challenges after surgery, you can overcome this one too...and you'll be better off for it

I stopped losing weight a few weeks ago. I guess I need to join the gym again. Sigh. I hate exercising.

Yes that is definitely me. I was sleeved 7/25 and so far lost only 23 pounds. If I do not work out, the scale does not move. Sometimes I get really depressed about it. I really thought the sleeve would be a big help to me but I have to work just as hard. It's depressing when you see people losing 20lbs a month just by eating well meanwhile I have to kill myself by working out daily and eat right. @@PRINCESS2218

Well.... weight loss will happen successfully with a combination of the 2. The sleeve is only a tool to help aide us in controlling our hunger, portion sizes, and in turn allowing us (along with the education we received during and after our WLS) to make better food choices. As we begin to form our new normal a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise should become part of our daily lives for long term success.

I was able to shed pounds after WLS with changes to my diet alone HOWEVER-- my weight loss was a lot more consistent when I included exercise. I don't necessarily like to exercise-- but I don't necessarily like being overweight either. We all went through great lengths to achieve a healthy body weight and we should all be willing to do whatever it takes to get there-- including exercise.

There are plenty of people who have lost the weight without a day of exercise. Many of them have physical disabilities which don't allow them to safely participate in traditional exercise programs. If you are blessed to have a sound body to BE ABLE to participate in activities like walking, biking, swimming, weight training for 30 min a day 5 days a week WHY NOT? Starting with baby steps slowly build yourself up...

@@Candygyrl this is a great reply. I think the key is patience. I unfortunately am not one of the one's who can lose with just diet alone and I have accepted that. I am blessed to have a treadmill at home and so I make sure to work out atleast 30min a day by jogging or brisk walking and so far it has been working for me. I'm 8 weeks out and down 24lbs! To me its not bad for a light weight. I started at 217 and my goal is 130-140. I am currently 193.

Omgod, me too. I was sleeved 7/25 also and since the start I've only lost about 33lbs. I'm scared that I won't lose anymore. We're truckers and are driving most of the day, so I walk in the evening at truck stops, try to get in at least a mile if not a mile and a half. To me, like you said, it's like it was before the surgery trying to lose the weight on your own...ugh...feeling frustrated.

@northcountyr1 I understand how you feel...I too have a sedentary job and I notice since returning back to work from medical leave my loss has slowed down just a tad bit. I was losing about 3 lbs a week when I was off work but I was also exercising for an hour each day (lots of spare time). Now that I'm back at work and sitting all day, I probably lose 1 to 2 lbs a week. We have to just work harder I guess. I just really wish I had known this going in to this surgery and it's so annoying that my doctor's office acts like they've never heard of this or I am the first and only person that has ever experienced slow loss...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
