marlynn8502 10 Posted July 27, 2016 I was wondering if there are any others out there who are brand new too. So far I think I'm doing great. Haven't vomited at all and have only had a few bouts with nausea. Those were a result of the pain meds completely wearing off while I was sleeping... What a way to wake up. Does anyone have any tips on getting rid of the rest of the gas? I still have some shoulder pain and an occasional sharp pain in my left side (feels like a stitch I sometimes get from running). Also, they recommended Colace to start my bowels back up... But nothing yet... Or since Saturday.... Advice? Thank you in advance:) b Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
becomingmandikaye 262 Posted July 27, 2016 Hey there! I'm six weeks out, so probably not as new as you're looking for... but here's my advice anyway. Walking is the best way to get rid of the gas. Walk, walk some more, and then walk some more. It took me 4 or 5 days to have a bowel movement - you're only 2 days post-op, so don't start worrying yet! Congratulations, and welcome to the loser's bench!
heidikat72 935 Posted July 27, 2016 The surgical team had told me if i didn't have a bowel movement in 4 days to take a small dose of milk of magnesia - and i did need it even with taking colace daily. I had surgery June 17th by the way. And yes, walking is really the only way to get rid of the gas - and it still took about 4 or 5 days before I felt like the gas pressure was gone. SilentBotts 138 Posted July 27, 2016 I took Miralax and Colace for about the first month, I still take the Colace now. Walking is the best way to get the gas to clear up. You should try to walk a few times a day.
SwampBillies 65 Posted July 27, 2016 Smooth Move Tea is what works for me. You can buy it at any grocery store. It's gentle and natural. My surgery was July 22nd. Band to Sleeve revision.

marlynn8502 10 Posted July 29, 2016 My surgery was 7/26 and the gas is killing me!! Summer Gonzalez bypass: 7/26/16 . Mine just eased today... I had a bowel movement and wow! Game changer. I feel somewhat normal! I'm only a day ahead of you...maybe tomorrow:). I admit that I 'cheated'- I had a regular cup of coffee.. 1 Splenda and a splash of skim milk... 30 minutes later and I was good to go. marlynn8502 10 Posted July 29, 2016 I was scared too, but it was really fine.... I took my belly pillow with me just in case but I didn't need it. I didn't strain I just let it happen. I also had a giant fart... Gross but a serious concern this early in recovery... That was fine too. I have a sleeve. Never thought I'd write a post like this lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

LowBMISleever 381 Posted July 29, 2016 Is coffee okay?? I thought coffee post-op was dangerous to your stomach lining? I'm 8 days post-op and would kill for my morning cup!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
marlynn8502 10 Posted July 29, 2016 My post op instructions had Decaf coffee on Day 3 with Full liquids. I just had the one mild cup with caffeine, it didn't bother my stomach at all. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
