I live alone and just wondering...if I am coming home alone and no one will be there for me, will I be okay? Or should I hire someone for a day or two?

There is not a one size fits all answer to this. Some people recover very quickly others are a bit slower. I was in the hospital for 2 days and afterwards I was fairly able to manage on my own once I got home. But that is not everyone. Walking helps. I walked for 30 minutes each day in the 8 months before surgery, I walked every 2 hours around the clock while in the hospital. I took walking very seriously and it really accelerated my recovery and ability to cope with pain after surgery. You will need for someone to take you home. You will need for someone to help you get your prescription medicines (including the blood thinner and other meds which not all pharmacies have in stock) on the way home. I found it is best to stop at a pharmacy located near a bariatric surgery hospital because they have the best chance of having those in stock.

I agree w/ James. If you walk regularly after surgery, you'll recover faster. I went home the day after surgery. My surgeon gave me the post-op rx's before my surgery so I could have them filled & ready for my arrival home. I needed help getting in/out of the shower for a couple of days after I got home but was able to do everything else. I had prepared weell so I had everything I needed.

I probably could have managed on my own, but it was great to have someone here to help me reminding me to drink and fixing Jello and broth for me, etc., I think I could have done it on my own but I probably would have felt a little overwhelmed.

I just had my bypass a week ago, and I would recommend having someone with you at least for a couple days. It has been worth it just to have people lift things that I am restricted from lifting. Also when I dropped things it was impossible to bend over and pick them off the floor.

Thank you everyone for the comments! :) My mom has said she will take a day or two off to help. Thanks for the heads up!

I managed on my own. I took my time being very careful not to bump into anything. I have a fridge in my room so that helped eventhough the dr want me to use the steps. Those first two days home I stayed upstairs until it was time to go for a walk

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
