Working out and calories in/out

Recommended Posts

Hi! I was sleeved about 6 months ago and within the past month or two have really stepped up the exercise. The scale has barely moved in the past month or so and I'm not sure if it's a stall but figured someone on here might have some advice. I have been working out about 2 hours/6x per week. Usually a combination of either yoga, kickboxing, or spinning class plus doing weight training with a trainer a few times per week. I'm estimating with mfp that most days I burn about 1000 calories but I'm only eating 700-900... About 70-80g Protein and under 40 carbs. Is it an issue to burn more than I'm taking in? How many calories do you guys eat/burn? Or am I just at a stall?

I've been doing cardio one hour per day 7 days per week since 1 week post op. Plus I walk maybe 3 miles per day as well. I probably burn 800 calories a day exercising and took in less than 800 calories a day eating. I was loosing about 8 lbs per week. Now I'm eating maybe 1100 Calories a day and my weight loss has dropped to about 2 lbs per week. I'm 16 weeks out and have dropped 115 lbs and about 15 lbs from goal weight.

Stalling at 6 months isn't uncommon. Are you losing inches?

Do you know what your resting metabolic rate is? Have you had it tested? If your RMR is 1500, and you are already eating a calorie deficit and then you are burning 1000 calories on top of that calorie deficit, you are in starvation mode.

You don't have any wight or height information so it is hard to tell.

You are starving! You will not loose weight like this.. you will maintain and once you eat again, you would have screwed your metabolism therefore gaining weight once you eat more the further out you are.

Cut down the exercise to 3-4 times a week...

For the amount of exercise you are doing 40g of carbs is not enough unless your calories are higher.

For that amount of exercise a normal person who is on a calorie reduction of 1200 calories wouldn't loose any weight.

To loose one pound of fat one needs to burn 3,500 calories a week...

If you are eating 800 calories per day... thats 5,600 calories per week

So say that you are 5'5" and weigh 200lbs.. BMR is 1400 calories per day just to exist (organs, breathing etc)

That person needs 9,800 calories a week to exist!

Exercise is 6,000 calories burned a week.

9,800 (BMR)

minus

5,600 (calories)

= deficit 4,200

minus

6,000 (exercise)

= -1,800 calories a week

The deficit is way to large!.. it shouldn't be that large!

You can add much more calories a week and still loose a pound a week.

Watch for sneaky carbs. A bite here, a larger portion there, juice, etc can get ya.

Also, your body might be holding on. If you don't have carb creep, you may not be eating enough with the amount of exercise. Sometimes to break that, eat *bad* for a day or two, then it tricks your body into thinking the famine is over and you might start losing weight again.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
