At what point did eating for post op requirements become natural? I spend a great deal of time thinking about how much I drink, Protein, etc. For those of you who are several months post op, when does it become more normal?

I haven't had surgery yet, but 4 of my coworkers have had it recently. They have told me it takes about 2 months to get used to it. None of them regret the surgery and they're all healthy and looking fantastic.

I am ten months post op and I feel like this has been my "new normal" for a while now. Once I finally got to the solid food stage, it was all downhill from there. I'd say around the 3-4 month mark it all became normal and I wasn't having to spend so much time measuring, calculating, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's something we will always have to be mindful of but it all comes naturally to me now. Hopefully that makes sense.

@@CourtneyLouise, thanks. I have no regrets and feel great but this does take a lot of my mental energy! I'm excited about having this feel normal so that I can keep it in the background so to speak and put the rest of my life in the forefront.

I can totally relate to your post! I do not feel normal yet either. I had my surgery June 14th. So I guess I'm in my 7th week? I'm in my fifties and thought my brain would explode trying to keep track of my Fluid intake, my Protein intake, food choices, allowed and not allowed, exercise, and medications... I became dehydrated so I started setting notifications on my phone to remind me of these things. Boy! That was annoying...My cell phone always went off when I walked away from my desk at work! lol

Anyhow...I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. BUT...we can do this AND we will feel a new kind of normal at some point?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
