Hi. Have any of you experienced Gout due to your weight? I've had pain before in my toes but I assumed it was because I was constantly cracking them. I stopped cracking them months ago and since Sunday night my toes on my right foot have been hurting so badly! I mentioned it to my girlfriend and all I could describe the pain as is arthritic. I did what any sane person would do and I googled my symptoms. Something came up about Gout & flare ups being caused by eating foods that contain too much uric acid. This weekend we had poke Saturday and Sunday. I had tuna both times. I'm wondering if that caused me to be in pain. It makes sense anyway. It also mentioned it has to do with being over weight. I've only had this problem a few times but this time the pain is almost unbearable.

I am a mess! I'm laying here toes hurt and sciatica pain in my opposite leg and having trouble sleeping lol.

I had some pain in one of my feet several years ago. It affected only one foot and was severe. It was also very intermittent. It would come, last for a few days and then disappear. It also occurred on the foot I injured over the winter a few years ago. I spoke to my doctor about it and he said that it was likely the gout. He said there was a test for it but it was fairly unreliable. He said there is a drug that fixes it and taking the drug is the best way to test for this condition. "If you experience the pain and take the drug and the symptoms disappear then its gout." Well the next time it happened, I put a heat pad on my foot and the pain eased quickly so I never tested to see if this was the gout. Also, the occurrence of this condition has become less frequent.

My mother suffers from diabetic nerve pain. This affects her feet and will knock her off her feet for awhile when it occurs. Since diabetes is related to being overweight, it seems likely this might be the cause in your case if you were diabetic.

@@emme.vee Try taking some Tart Cherry tablets (or the liquid). That usually helps my SO. Also - celery seed (pills) and Tumeric help. I often have pain that I believe is Gout - it's horrible. My SO gets it frequently (especially if he's had beer) in his feet and knees.

I have had both alcohol and high uric acid foods this weekend. I am going to try the heating pad while I'm sitting at my desk today at work. I can't stand the pain and I still woke up with it today. I am prediabetic, so idk if it's that. I guess it could be.

@@emme.vee - I had it pre-surgery. It hurts so bad you feel like your foot is broken. You don't even want a sheet to touch it. They gave me: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-8640/colchicine-oral/details and  http://www.webmd.com/arthritis/features/pain-relief-how-nsaids-work

What I found is I would have the flare ups when I got myself dehydrated. But I have no symptoms post surgery.

It has been really super hot and I have been slightly dehydrated (I can tell by my pee). Maybe that's part of the problem as well. Idk but today it feels okay, not as bad as last night. I couldn't even sleep. Every time I tossed and turned I woke up from the pain.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
