Surgeon just tried to talk me out of balloon

Recommended Posts

I am only a week out, post Balloon Removal, and so far so good. My goal is to not gain weight for the rest of the summer. Workout 3-4 times per week and only allow cheats on the weekend. I still feel very motivated and do not have any cravings...although I do feel those horrible hunger pains, that I didn't have much of the last 6 months!!! I have a trainer lined up for Sept, when I will dive back into a solid weigh loss plan, on my own this time! If I fail, however, I am very open to getting the sleeve.....but right now, my head is in the right place, thanks to the balloon!

That's fantastic - keep up the great work, and please do keep us posted. I have less than two months to go ... very curious about what to expect after. :-) Cheers!

I had a lap band because I wanted to know that it is reversible. I have lost all the weight that I needed to in the first 6 months. I have changed the way I eat so as to maintain. I went through this process and would not do anything that would lead me to gain my weight back. I would never remove the band unless there was a medical reason to. To remove the band would put me back to my dieting times that always failed. If the band isn't causing any problems why change? People have to realize that they cannot go back to living the way they did before surgery. You have to realize that you have to give up lots of foods to be successful. none of these cheating meals, beer, chocolate carbs, etc.

I have no WLS experience yet but I will say that my surgeon also recommended against the balloon. He said that it is more of a jump start and for people who have gained and lost over and over again there isn't much hope that 6 months will be long enough to change that. I was told that the sleeve can indeed stretch, but it will never be anywhere near what your stomach used to be. For me it seemed like the better options. As another poster said you can def get sleeved in Mexico with a lower BMI. Best of luck!!
