Vape saved me. I gradually brought the nicotine level down to nothing.

I just stopped. I knew I wanted the surgery more than I wanted the cigarettes. The first week sucks. It gets easier after that.

Hi. I was a 30+ year smoker. I stopped smoking cigarettes in August 2014 and started the ecigs. Weaned myself off of nicotine in 2 months. Now I barely smoke the ecigs, only once or twice a week. No nicotine. Honestly I can say that was the best decision I made ever. No desire anymore for a cigarette, unfortunately I gained about 25 pounds, but worth it. No more stinky clothes, house or myself. That's how I did it. Never thought I could. Now it's time to lose the weight. You hear bad things about ecigs too, but I believe they are still safer than cigarettes. Give it a try. Worked for me. Good luck...????

If you're waiting for the urge to pass, it may never. I smoked for 35 years then one day I decided enough. Everyone was shocked. Including me. I loved smoking and had never tried to quit. Didn't want to. It was hell for about a week then it gradually got better. That was 8 years ago and there are still times I want one so bad I can't stand it. Still times I automatically reach for one without even thinking. But I know that if I smoke one, I'll be back to over a pack a day. With all that said, I'm so glad I quit. I feel so free. No longer restricted on where I can go or how long I can stay because you can't smoke anywhere anymore. I had to go cold turkey. I wish I could do that with food. It's hard to do just a little bit. That's what I'm hoping the sleeve will do for me. Good luck in your journey.

Well I'm going to get slammed here. I am 6 days post op and I picked up a cigarette! I'm trying not to inhale but you know how that goes. I'm so mentally hungry and I did not know the missing I would have of the companionship of eating with my sweetheart! I go in our bedroom when he cooks. I'm super depressed and now beating myself up for smoking too! Cry most of the time ???? Please help me !!!

Smoking will delay healing. Throw away the cigarettes! Remember all the things you want to do once you lose weight! You can get through this difficult few weeks and you'll feel so much better. Hormones are out of whack right now - you don't have food to turn to. Find a distraction - go for a walk, get a pedicure, get out and enjoy the sun and fresh air! You can do this! Stay strong!!!

You are increasing your risk for a leak significantly every time you smoke. I'm a former smoker and quit 8 years ago so no judgment but just want to mention that since a leak is far worse than going without a cigarette. If you did develop one, you would be kicking yourself. It's not worth it. If you are going to start smoking again, at least wait a few months until you are healed.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
