Did anyone else have difficulty transitioning from liquids to soft foods? I was told by my nutritionist I'm now able to eat anything I can 'cut with a fork'. When I'm eating I'm definitely pacing myself cause I've found I get sick otherwise. But my stomach makes constant noises and I occasionally have to stop because I get the feeling I'm going to be sick, but it goes away after a few minutes. I just want to know if that's normal or not, or if it goes away?

My first day I switched I ended up in the ER :-(

Not sure if it was the transition or just bad timing.

I ended up waking up that night with severe stabbing abdomen pain with vomiting. Test showed nothing was wrong probably because of no bowel movements in a few weeks.

Been 5days since then and feeling so much better and did have one movement.

Just take it very slow ;-)

I am progressing along mushy foods and then next week more soft foods.

I stick to poached egg, yoghurt, Protein Shakes, avocado, Protein pancakes (made primarily from egg and banana in my NutriBullet), hummus, a piece of deli meat with light cream cheese, Soups, Weetbix Cereal etc....so far I have had no problems but if you eat too fast, I know that feeling - a horrible nauseaus spell that makes you want to gag!!

I ate a cheese and egg omelette a bit too fast and it just sat in my throat! Uhh, horrible.

I just walk around and try to get it moving!

My only fear was with the high-carb puree choices that were on the "approved list".

I didn't want to open the door to that garbage, even though it was in super small doses.

I just stayed with Protein shakes for 4 weeks until cleared to move on to flakey fish and moist soft meats and continued to supplement with Protein Shakes.

Sounds bad but tomorrow will be one week since surgery and I'm allowing myself to have things like black bean Soup, which has whole Beans that I mash into a paste. The consistency is less liquidy but it was a good trial for moving into solids. Don't know if that helps, but maybe transition with something soft that can be smashed?

My biggest challenge (I'm in the soft foods stage for two more weeks) is that I can eat such tiny amounts that I don't know if I can get up to 60g Protein for a while. The nut really advised against Protein shakes during this stage but if I don't, I won't get near enough.

But yes, my stomach makes all kinds of noises now and as soon as my upper chest/throat starts to hurt I'm finished.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
