For any Vets - Once you had a date set but it were still too early to actually start the pre-op prep, did you wish you had treated this early period differently than you did or did you prepare in a way that worked and you want to share?

I'm thinking I may take a week for a couple food funerals and then start having 1 Protein Shake a day along with 2 meals consisting of a lean Protein and 2 vegetables. I think I'll also start training myself not to drink during meals nor an hour before or after.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Honestly I would have three meals consisting of lean meat and veggies. You'll have enough Protein Shakes post-op and you'll need them, but you don't really get any benefit from drinking them now IMO.

Another behavior you may want to get down cold before your surgery is tracking your food intake. So, if you don't have them, I would say get yourself a myfitnesspal account and a digital food scale and start working on that practice.

Does your surgeon require you not drink for an hour before or after eating? If you aren't positive about that, I would say just work on not drinking with meals or for 30 minutes after. That is a more common instruction.

Finally, incorporate some daily exercise, even if it is just walking. It will help you be healthier as you go into surgery.

Great advise! Thank you!

No, he actually hasn't said anything about the drinking before and after - got that from this site. Will start my tracking today. I am scheduled Aug 30 and really want to go in as healthy as possible.

I'll have some shakes and bars on hand in the event I don't have time to eat during my regular meal.

Again, thanks for the info!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
