Hey Houston Bandsters

Barbara: Just the two of us it looks like, for Humble area. Want to start in January instead? I'm going to the downtown one Saturday...do you go there?

Do you mean the one in whole foods on kirby and Westheimer? If so, I am going to try and make that one too.

Hey Funny Bone,

Missed your post and the opportunity to wish you well before your surgery. Hopefully things went well and it was just a breeze. There are several of us here in Sugar Land, I think. Maybe when you are more mobile, we can meet for soup!

I'm in North Houston, looking for others in the general Houston area for support either online or for meetups.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier....I just noticed that my computer loads the oldest comments first and so have been thinking that no one had responded or commented here in forever. I would love to have people who are also banded to talk with or meet up with. And to have a place where we motivate each other as well! I had the surgery in 15 July and have not spoke to anyone who has had their procure recently. How have you been doing?

Have you found other websites or blogs that are active? Or have anyone in the local area participating? I have tried many other sites even meetup.com and haven't found anyone yet...I thought there would've more online interaction on this base on the size and large population in the greater Houston area.

Hi! I agree, I thought there would be more people around the area considering how big it is. My doctor does a monthly support group but I've not gone to any, but will start next month. I'd prefer someone that I can meetup with once in awhile for support and to talk with. Just someone who is going through similar things! So if you'd like to chat or email its prettybutterfly78@att.net. Hope to hear from you. Deanna

I just sent you an email and just realized you had emailed me before....I explain why in my email. And agree that a smaller group of friends and one on one chats, emails, and meeips are better than big groups. Anyways check your email for mine so we can chat more...and if anyone else reads this and want to talk or join our chats let me know. :)

Hey BandedTheresa! Glad to know people are out there :) How are you doing? If you don't mind me asking how much weight have you loss since you got your band? Was it a slow continuos process or was it a rapid loss for the first month or so then slow down a few months later? Who did your proceedure? My doctor just retired last week and I'm still trying to find another doctor in the area....I didn't know that most doctors won't accept a new paitent who had a band put in by another doctor. I assumed that most ports were placed in the same general area so it wouldn't matter who did the surgery when it came to doing adjustments. But I was wrong...

Well in a year I've lost 30 lbs but inches is another story. The weight not coming off is my fault. I havnt stuck to exercising. My dr was Dr Spivak. He has just recently closed his office to except a position in a different country. The first month was slow fir ne but then again this whole process has. You HAVE to stay dedicated to the band and know it's not going to do the work for you it's only a tool.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
