How long does the process take?

It depends on your insurance. Mine was a little over 6 months

Hope all goes well! Some insurances require a few months of medically supervised weight loss before they approve. Some don't require that... My ins had me do 6 months of medically supervised weight loss. When that was completed, I had my surgery about a month later.

I had to do 3 months of nutritionist visits and then meet with Dr again and then wait for insurance approval. I'm waiting now for insurance approval. So minimum length of time for me would have been about 4 months.

However, I did 4 nutritionist visits because I was wavering about whether to do the surgery or not. And I didn't start them immediately after my first Dr visit so for me it's been Jan 19 to (I hope!!) August 17- 7 months.

It can take a little longer if you have to reschedule appointments or your insurance takes a long time or your doctor has a vacation planned etc.

Tl;dr: just under 2 full months.

I had my consult with the bariatric doctor on June 16th. I got my approval date from insurance on July 18th or 19th. Surgery date is set for August 9th.

I had to do seminars, classes, a sleep study, lab work and see a psychologist.

Mine was exactly one month and one day. I met with surgeon the first time on May 26. I had the pre op tests and psych eval the following week. Then I had to wait because of Memorial Day weekend. Insurance approved and i scheduled a date a couple weeks after. My surgeon was out of town for two weeks so I had it done on June 27. I as in the hospital for a while because I got pneumonia. I went back to work the day I left the hospital, July 1.

It's been about 90 days I had my weight loss seminar May 26 I'm scheduled for surgery August 24th it totally depends on your insurance requirements my nutritionist told me some insurance companies require 6 months or more of nutritional visits that seems to take the longest from what I've heard

Also I was super in a hurry at first but I'm kind of glad it's taking this long it's giving me time to really research think things through make sure this was the best option I'm really glad and feel like it's a blessing that the process wasn't as rushed as I had first wanted it to be

I had to do six months of visits with a nutritionist so I started in January and got my approval and scheduled my surgery for September 1st.

I started in June of this year and my last nutritionist appointment is on August 16th. I had to do 3 months of nutritionist visits and pre-op testing (including a Upper GI test). My surgeon said that I'll be sleeved in September, date depending on when insurance approves me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
