Gastric sleeve journey so far.

Recommended Posts

Hello. This is my first post on here. I was sleeved on June 16, 2016. My starting weight was 340lbs and I am now 298lbs. I am 5 weeks out, and I've been feeling absolutely miserable. I've been nauseous and the sight of certain foods or even thinking about food makes me feel miserable. I feel like I am losing too slow, or like I'm doing everything wrong. I've been sleeping terribly and I've had a headache for 3 days. I'm absolutely exhausted and have no motivation to work out.

I'm having a really tough time coping with my emotions. I was very much an emotional eater and now that my stomach is gone I don't have anything healthy to cope with. It's been really miserable for me. I'm crabby, emotional, exhausted, and kind of regretting the surgery right now. I would love to kinda just undo it right now. Any suggestions?

If you lost 42lbs in 5 weeks I wouldn't call that slow, at all.

Stay hydrated and on point with meting your Protein and Vitamin requirements each day.

You are in the tough part.

It took me about two months to begin to feel "somewhat normal". By the beginning of the third month I knew I was back in action and better than ever. It's been that way ever since.

Hang in there and be patient.

It'll get better really, really soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
