What does hunger feel like?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a really hard time distinguishing what my body is trying to tell me. I'm 5 days post op and I keep getting this sensation that I can't tell what it is.

It starts in my belly and moves up to my stomach and then to my neck. It's like a sharp painful feeling that turns into that feeling where you're starving and your stomach is trying to claw its way out for some food, and ends as more of a noise, like sandpaper on the back of your neck.

It usually only lasts 10 seconds or so, but I get it frequently. Is this hunger?

I haven't had a day yet where I've been able to meet my Water or Protein goal. I'm on a full liquid diet.< /p>

Help!

That might be residual gas pains. I am almost three weeks out and I can honestly say I have not been hungry nor full. I am clueless. But in my first week post op I had sensations like that and my MD said it was probably gas. It has since stopped.

That sounds like gas pains or stomach acid, not hunger.

Hi there! I am ten months post op and can honestly say I haven't felt hungry one time. I do feel what I call "empty" rather than "hungry. The best way I can explain it to people is that before surgery whenever I felt hungry, I always craved a specific food. If I was hungry and wanted cheese dip then only cheese dip would satisfy me. Now, post op, I don't have those cravings or feelings. Occasionally I do feel like my stomach is empty. When i get this feeling, I can fill up on anything, whether it's Water, meat, veggies, etc. and the empty feeling goes away. I hope that makes sense and can help you make sense of what you're feeling. Since you're still so early post op, the feelings you're having might be gas pain or heartburn from stomach acid.

I remember that feeling. It will go away in time. I do believe it was related to stomach acid.

I was sleeved March of 2014. I am just now figuring out what my new feelings are and how they relate to hunger.

My emotional eating has began to sneak up on me. When my body is hungry I do have an overall "empty" feeling.

I am going to begin smarter meal planning and utilizing my fitbit. I am realizing that at this point for me it is about fat percentage loss and not getting caught up in what I weigh.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
