Huge win for me last night!

Recommended Posts

I am 4 months post-RNY and while things have gone extremely well for me (83lbs down since surgery, 130 lbs down overall) I have been struggling with a slight stricture.

It hasn't been the end of the world. I can drink fluids fine and eat soft foods like cottage cheese, string cheese, etc. the only animal Protein I have been able to tolerate is shrimp and scallops. I can handle Beans and peas in Soups.

Any other meat I've tried (chicken, fish, pork) has come right back up. It has been more of a mental thing than anything else. I am fine physically, but my choices are so limited, and if I'm in a situation where I must eat out, I have very, very few choices (if any).

Anyway, I have been feeling "better" when I eat lately (had to describe) so I decided to grill up some chicken last night and give it a shot.

I was able to eat 2.5 ounces of chicken. No issues! It felt great (and tasted delicious).

Hard to describe how happy this makes me. I am super happy with the surgery, but am anxious to get back to a new "normal" state. One where I am not the freak who can't eat anything. I'll be happy to just be the guy that makes healthy choices and eats small portions!!

chicken can be hard to eat. But some of this can be overcome by food preparation. For example if you take a chicken breast and put it in a covered pot with Water and add a chicken bouillon cube and slow cook it until the chicken is so tender that it falls apart with a fork, it will go down much easier.

Also chicken in Soups will go down easier.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
