I'm 2 days from being 3 months post op. I have lost 56 lbs. Which doesn't feel like much since 30 of that was month one. I just washed my hair and clump after clump came out. I've just started feeling better about all these rapid changes and even though I knew it was coming I'm not sure how to cope.

I have the same problem, I take Biotin and meet my Protein goal... Mostly. I think it's just one of those things and from what I've read it will right itself when you reach a steady weight. I'm lucky that I already had very thick hair so it's not so noticeable.

I wish I could give you more hope, maybe try upping your Protein?

hair loss is inevitable after surgery. The low calorie intake is why we all lose our hair initially. It is hard seeing the hair in the drain and on your hairbrush every time you take a shower. The good news is that it that it will definitely come back. (No amount of Protein or Biotin will stop it while you are losing weight.) Try to roll with it and know that it is only a temporary problem that will resolve.

I am now 8 months out. For me, Nioxin helped. I used it right after surgery, but when it ran out, I didn't think it was doing any good so I chose to spend the money on something else instead. I now have baldish spots where my scalp shows through very well. I have very fine, thin , short hair anyway. I went for a month or so without Nioxin and noticed that for me I was losing a lot of hair. The beginning of July I bought some more Nioxin and have noticed a decrease in the amount of hair that comes off in my hand when I wash my hair. I don't know if its growing back yet, but it doesn't seem to be getting any thinner. :) I ordered my Nioxin on Amazon. They had starter kits (three bottles) and individual bottles. There are 4 or 5 different kinds of Shampoo and conditioner. I use 4 which is for fine, treated hair. I don't know that mine is treated at the moment, but it is definitely noticeably thinning which 4 is specifically for.

MOstly, I have decided that I am not going to worry about the Hair loss and take it as it comes. I didn't/don't take Biotin, in wasn't really recommended by my surgeon's office. I do diligently eat my Protein. Because I knew there was a good chance of hair loss, I cut my hair to a very short pixie even before surgery and have kept it as such since. I hope to grow it out again someday, but we'll see.

My best advice is roll with it the best you can. I have even threatened to buy a hot pink wig if it gets worse, but it was more of a joke than anything.

Good luck,

pam

If you get one, I'll get one too ;)

I haven't started the hair loss stage yet (I'm at 10 weeks out), but I have been using Nioxin, and went with the Stage 4 for my next bottle as well. Don't know if it'll help, but I will feel better trying.

I have my hair longer than it's been in a long long time... all in anticipation of losing it and getting a shorter cut! Ha!

And while I know all of this will be happening, it doesn't mean I won't be on here whining about it when it does!

I'll start taking the Biotin when it's time for regrowth to try and help speed the regrowth up!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
