Hello! I am scheduled to have my sleeve done on 8/31. I was wondering what heath issues you had before surgery that you no longer live with today . (HTN, Fatty Liver Disease, Diabetes, etc) What was the time frame that these diagnosis resolved?

Finally, what is one thing (physically/activities) that you were unable to do before surgery that you can do now?

High cholesterol, high blood pressure, pcos, pre diabetes, obesity & sleep apnea. I was never dx with fatty liver disease but that goes hand in hand with obesity most of the time.

My blood pressure has been on the low side, I've been taken off 3 of my 4 meds

My sugar level is normal now

My cholesterol is normal now.. My body produced bad cholesterol before. I was going to be on meds forever.

I am no longer obese

I sleep without my machine, my snoring is minimal and I no longer stop breathing

My cycles are normal but I still have the pesky facial hair.

I'm 6 months post op ;)

Missed the last question.

I can do everything my family is doing. I no longer have to sit on the sideline because I'm too big, too embarrassed or too tired

I no longer have sleep apnea, low-T or type-2 diabetes.

My blood pressure is normal and my cholesterol levels (LDL/HDL) improved significantly.

These improved were noticeable as I was losing weight, the greatest impact was 6 months to a year after I started the weight loss journey (pre WLS diet + post WLS).

One thing I now can do is have much more strength and stamina to be able take long walks and hikes.

@@spunkyheather I'm only a month out (surgery was 6/21), but I'm off my lisinopril for hypertension (in fact, my bp went down immediately post-op so I never started back on it after being admitted). I also have fibromyalgia and although I'm still taking the amitriptyline for the peripheral pain I have, the trigger points on my back are completely gone and I've been able to discontinue my weekly acupuncture treatments. This has made a HUGE change in my quality of life.

I've also got a great deal more stamina and am able to easily walk several miles, which would have made me winded, miserable and in pain prior to surgery. It hasn't been all roses and unicorns post-op, but it's been an overwhelmingly positive experience. My only regret is that I didn't opt for this 10 years ago!

I wanted to add that my high blood pressure was Malignant high blood pressure so for me to go from 4 meds to 1 is amazing :)

I went off diabetes meds three days after surgery and never looked back. Normal A 1c now. Happy happy happy. I am on 1/4 of the blood pressure meds now and I only take that about twice a week rather than daily. Weaning off.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
