2feelgood 3 Posted July 23, 2016 Hello, I had the gastric sleeve 2 years ago. I'm not dong well and have put on a lot of weight. Although the quanity is limited, the frequency is not. I am always hungry. I've not gone back to doc becasue I dont want to get on scale. I'm wondering if I should have had the by pass instead and would I benefit from another proceudre. Has anyone done that? Advice? thank you
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted July 23, 2016 Before you have another surgery I would recommend taking a hard look at what you are doing. Your medical team is there to help you. Why not make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your challenges and goals? Are you following your program? Tracking your food? Eating Protein first? Getting in all of your Protein and fluids? Avoiding starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods? Are you eating mindfully? Eating slowly? Taking small bites and chewing thoroughly? Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed? Are you exercising? If you are always hungry, my guess is that you aren't getting enough protein and eating too many starches and sugars. I could be wrong but that is how it works for me. Have you been attending support group meetings? Have you seen a therapist or counselor? There are many things you can do. If you take a long hard look and still decide, in conjunction with your surgeon, that another surgery would be helpful then great. But, if you go into it as a magic fix without addressing the underlying issues then it probably wouldn't be a good idea.
Djmohr 6,965 Posted July 23, 2016 @@2feelgood @@Inner Surfer Girl is exactly right. I had RNY bypass and it controls how much I put in my body but certainly not what I choose to put in it. I can eat around my surgery all day long if I choose to. Trust me, there are days when I have only to find out that I had either stalled out or gained weight. I got to goal and have remained there so far because I choose to follow the rules at least 90% of the time every day. Why not try resetting before heading for another surgery? Go back to the basics. Start as if you had surgery yesterday and go on a liquid diet for a few days. Use the 5 day pouch test which you can google. Then follow the rules and see if the weight starts coming back off. The most important this to do is track every single thing you put in your mouth. Leverage something like Myfitnesspal to do that. Best of luck to you! James Marusek 5,244 Posted July 23, 2016 There are two phases to weight loss surgery. These are the Weight Loss phase and the Maintenance phase. I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. This is the approach that I use in the Maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf
