"You had that fat people surgery"

Recommended Posts

So I have an Instagram and I enjoy showing off my fitness journey but I notice there's a bunch of people who're like "all natural weight loss" and "weight loss surgery is the easy way out". Yes, because getting my insides rewired is easy.

So I had this one person try to sell me something from Herbalife and I kindly told them no and they literally said "you had that fat people's surgery, you probably need to cleanse your colon". Um, what.

Have you ever been told surgery was the easy way out? What was your reply?

Well I'm very glad you didn't buy what she's selling, she's obviously ignorant and uninformed ! People are so stupid . I went in to nutrition world and this Barbie doll looking wanna be in spandex informed me that they don't sell ". GERIATRIC " shakes . I'm pretty sure the word she was looking for is bariatrics and it's a good thing she doesn't work on commission ....

I was worried that people would think that so I've told just a few close friends and family. My husband who is a wonderful supporter tells me all the time that he doesn't know how I do it. I don't care at this point what people say or think, I did this for me and I'm so glad I did. I've lost 48% of fat and I'm so proud. 52% to go! Stay focused.

Obviously she's uneducated about WLS and I'm sure she probably has her own struggle. Obesity is an obvious struggle, hers is hidden. WLS is far from "The Easy Way Out". It's a tool but not a miracle and it does get harder once you're able to eat anything and hunger pains kick back in. I have to daily make a conscience effort to eat healthy. I have to watch others eat all the junk they want and not gain weight.....but I'm making healthy choices and putting food that nurtures my body. Use it as a tool and ignore comments from people that are clueless. Keep you head up and good luck.

I have been told by many people that I am taking the easy way out. I tried not to tell anyone what I was doing, except my husband, until I got medical approval. Once I got approved, I told my family first, then announced it to everyone else. For those that say it's the easy way, I just brush it off. My husband, though he says he supports me in this, insists that I just need to be more active and diet more. Despite it all, it is my body and my choice. I am willing to put in the work, just need the jump-start this will give me. Anyone that says this is easy has no idea what they are talking about.

I only told family at first. I was ashamed of being fat and didn't want any additional focus on it. I gradually told people I'm close to and they've been totally supportive. If someone were to say that to me I'd play dumb. Like I don't know what they're talking about. "easy way out of what?" I'd love to hear why they think this way.

For me, it was the only way out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
