I am almost 4 weeks post op gastric bypass and still get so tired and feel rundown. How long did it take some of you to feel back to normal?

That is always a tough one, people vary so much. I recovered almost intimidatingly, but I had gotten in the best shape I could going in and I liked these Isopure's with 40g of Protein, and I think that helped. It also depends on what other issues you have/had, how big you were when you started, and there is the personal...if you have kids they are going to wear you down too. So many things to consider when you listen to other people's experience.

I was definitely no where near back to normal at 4 weeks. I wasn't even on solid foods yet until 40 days post-op. Once I was back on solid foods, my energy level increased, but it was still a lot of trial and error to figure out what to eat, how much to eat, how fast to eat, etc. I would say I really didn't have it all down in terms of my new eating feeling "normal" and my head in the right place until about 4 months post-op.

For me, it took 7 weeks before I felt like me again. By that time I was able to get all my fluids and Protein in and I remember going to Vegas for 11 days and I outlasted my family.

It will get better with time.

2 to 3 months for sure. 4 weeks is nowhere near enough time to fully recover from ANY surgery. No matter what surgery I have had - 4 shoulder surgeries, hysterectomy, gastric bypass - they all take a minimum of 6 weeks to start feeling more like yourself and longer in the WLS case because your body is adjusting to SO much change - hormone fluctuation, dramatic drop in calorie intake, switch from carbs for energy to Protein for energy, just the energy it takes to flush the fat from your body, etc. Give it time. You will get there and you won't even remember this time!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
