I know exactly which surgeon I want to do my surgery. I know 5 people have been to this particular surgeon. I feel very comfortable with the surgeon but I was not happy with his coordinator. When speaking to one of my friends I found out that they are a coordinator for that surgeon as well. It has been a completely refreshing experience to deal with the person that is my friend. It does make me wonder however how much business has been lost for this surgeon over the years by this coordinator and her lack of communication.

I know the feeling. The hospital I want to go to called me yesterday and told me that my insurance does not have Bariatric coverage. I told her, "That's funny, my co-worker just had her gastric sleeve at your facility on July 9th and we have the same insurance!" I called my insurance myself and confirmed that they do cover Bariatric services. So that makes me wonder not only how much business they've lost, but how many poor people have been told NO when they really are covered.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
