Not for RNY, I had the sleeve.

I failed my stress test so they did a cardiac catheter. That was fine, so I was cleared for surgery.

It was easy. The drugs were awesome and the Snacks were delicious. It sounds very scary but it's a piece of cake.

Oh gosh yes. Thought first visit to the Cardiologist was for my surgery "clearance," but no....abnormality on my ECG, so on to treadmill stress test and an ECHO - ECHO was fine, however abnormality on my stress test (mind you, no chest pain with the exercise). Now the abnormality that was showing up in my ECG is one that can be COMPLETELY benign (nothing) in women, but the Cardiologist wanted to be very sure (and rack up some more $$ for additional testing), so I had to have a nuclear stress test (all the while, STILL waiting on my cardiac clearance (everything else was complete, even the insurance approval). On the downside, had an additional, oh $900 in Cardiology bills (that was just my part, sinful what they charged my insurance), but on the upside, everything was great, no ischemia (areas not getting oxygen) to my heart muscle, heart function at the high end of normal. Needless to say, went into surgery feeling amazingly relieved, because I come from a long family history of cardiovascular disease (a major factor in why I decided on surgery), so to know I would be starting the post-op part of the journey with pretty much a clean cardiac slate, I felt amazingly blessed. Pain in the butt, took additional time, money, and time off work, but peace of mind in the end.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
