funny the way my mind works

I have always been heavy to put it nicely. The lowest that I can remember was around 180 and that was for a few months senior year of high school when I had lost alot of weight because I was having my gall bladder removed. Needless to say I have continued to gain since then and I now weigh about 280. so in the past 10 years I have gained 100 pounds - funny enough thats how much I want to lose. I thought I was HUGE back then but now when I look at pictures I would give anything to be that size again!!! Well as I am going through the process to be banded I just keep thinking JEEZ its gonna take 1-2 years at least to lose all the weight that I want too and that seems like an eternity to me and then today it finally dawned on me that at least it wont take the 10 years that it took me to gain all this weight!!!!!!!! I will be grateful for anything that I lose because at least the scale wont be going up anymore!!!

I dont know if anyone else has felt like I did but to me it was another positive to push me to get the band.

Oh yeah and i go for my phsyic evaluation on 8/29 and I am super nervous about what he is going to ask. any words of advise??

Welcome to the site. My only advice would be to tell the truth. Always seem to work best. Best of luck. Donna

Hi, jetti

I think the main thing they're looking for in a psych eval is to be sure you realize that the band is not a magic bullet that's going to MAKE you lose weight. It is merely a tool - albeit a mighty serious and expensive one! -- to help keep you from going too far astray....but it's not going to MAKE you choose grilled fish instead of fried fish and fries....etc. You still have that work to do yourself.

My psych evaluation talked about the movie The Kid (never seen it), about how Bruce Willis meets his child self I guess.. so he asked me what Laura NOW would say to Laura at 13 years old (back when I was goin thru 'problems' that in retrospect are just normal adolescent thing..which I told him), and I realized he wanted me to say something extra nice and special lol. Then he asked me if I would hug my 13 year old self.

Honestly, I think HE had some issues.

Just don't sound like a looney person!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
