Stall, plateau or new set point?

Recommended Posts

I had sleeve surgery on 4/25/16 so I'm only 12 1/2 weeks out. I lost 12 pounds before surgery and bmi was right at 40 when I had surgery. I lost 34 pounds quickly post surgery. I would still like to lose about 30-40 more pounds. However, I haven't lost AT ALL since July 1. I know I've read about stalls and I was ok with it for about the first week but I am getting worried that I am not doing something right. Mostly I'm afraid I'm at a new set point and my body just doesn't want to lose anymore. I have upped my exercise, tried different exercise, eaten less calories, eaten more calories, upped my Protein intake from 60 grams a day to 90 to 100 a day and still the scale won't move. I'm not sure that I have seen a change in how my clothes fit either. Is this normal???? How long do stalls last? How do you stay encouraged during a stall?

How many calories should I be eating at this point? The doctor said I should be at around 800 calories a day. I have been tracking my intake and I get 800-900 a day.

I could really use advice!

I have been stalled for several weeks after loosing about 44 pounds or so. it is frustrating - but after a couple of weeks I can tell my body is changing. So, I keep following plan and the scale will move again. Stalls are normal even for people loosing weight without surgery.

800 calories seems really low, especially if you are eating more Protein.< /p>

Are you exercising?

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. If you intend to lose a significant amount of weight you will experience stalls.

Thanks for the replies and I love that article! I do feel myself reverting to some of the crazy making behaviors I had before surgery in order to try and get the scale to move. Maybe I'm better off trying to enjoy the new body I already have and try something new that I wouldn't have tried before surgery? I also made an appt with my nutritional counselor to talk through my meal planning. Thanks so much guys!
