Trip to ER w/ severe cramping

Recommended Posts

Pretty rough night :'(

I'm 2 weeks post op getting ready to add some soft foods when I woke up in the middle of the night with severe stabbing pain throughout my abdomen. Has any one else experienced this right as the switch to soft foods. Last thing I ate was 2oz of haddock and was very full. Wondering did I over do it? Didn't think is was to much. Cat scan came back fine! Hoping it does not return but belly is still not feeling right :'(

It very well could be an issue with your bowels. If you are having trouble going to the bathroom you should call your Bariatric team. You don't want to end up with a blockage.

Hope you feel better soon!

Talked to my team today. They reassured me no blockages as of now. They recommended mik og magnesia but just isn't doing it. Now I'm having to do sapasatories so we will see. Did have some relief early today but nothing since. So frustrating :-(

Thanks

it could have been the haddock, did you check the date or make sure it was cooked all the way? It's probably in your belly going ahhhh nooo turn turn....def try to get poop out.

I don't have any problem keeping stuff down just that one episode of cramping. Its been dine since then ;-)

I really think it had something to do with the whole lack of bowel movements which are much better now.

I had the same thing happen to me.. Pain and cramping.. I couldn't get comfortable.. I went to ER and everything in my abdomen was swollen but luckily no blockages either.. My team just told me to remember everything is still swollen and getting used to it.. Glad your feeling better!

❤️????

Very late response, but I had maui-maui and salmon 1-2 oz. and had severe full stomach fullness and pain. This is the second time this happened with fish. It lasted about 3 hours. 8 wks post op. Only "problem" I have had. No more fish for me!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
