ajg91342 36 Posted July 20, 2016 I had an upper GI on Monday. As it was being done while I was laying on my side, the doctor saw that I have a narrowing in my mid stomach. Looking at the screen, it was very obvious. I asked if it was a stricture and he said no since the Fluid is passing through. I was sleeved 5/20 and he was skeptical that it could still be from swelling. Have any of you had this issue? If so, what was done to correct it? Waiting to hear back from my GI Doctor on final results, but just wanted to hear from others too.
kmorri 1,689 Posted July 20, 2016 I'm sorry I don't have any information or advice to share....but you didn't mention any symptoms you're having. I assume that there was some issues that caused your doctor to do the upper GI??? Maybe there are others having the same symptoms and can share how their doctors addressed them. Good luck to you,,,,,we were sleeved close to the same time. My surgery was 5/16/16 and thankfully have been doing great with no issues.
ajg91342 36 Posted July 20, 2016 I was having discomfort with the small amount of food and drinks. I would feel unreasonably full. I also ended up with pancreatitis and they found that my gallbladder has sludge, which likely caused the pancreatitis. It's possible pancreatitis added additional swelling to my stomach, but the narrowing is so distinguished right in the middle of my stomach. I would have mild nausea, but that could have been from the other issues I was having.
sbg224 318 Posted July 20, 2016 What does the surgeon say, it sounds more like his call then the GI doc, good luck
ajg91342 36 Posted July 20, 2016 My surgeon initially told me to go to the GI Doctor and recommended the upper GI. Waiting for the final results from the GI Doctor and then they get faxed over to the surgeon. Surgeon made it pretty clear that he believes it is a GI Doctor issue at this point. Kind of feel pushed off.
swimbikerun 1,046 Posted July 23, 2016 Hmmm it is possible to mistake the sleeve, I had a u/s tech do it. Still, he may want the GI to make the call if the problem is gallbladder/pancreas. It may also be he/she is hoping NOT to have to go back in. You had major (bariatric) surgery. You are still healing quite a bit. It can be a lot more risky for surgery, especially given your history. I'm hoping you don't have to go back in.
