Hi Everyone,

I am half way done with completing my insurance requirements for VSG. Last week I had my EGD and they found I has gastritis. They said it wasn't too bad but could tell I've had it awhile. I'm not showing much for symptoms other than occasional burning feeling in my stomach and a little reflux from time to time.

My surgeon hasn't called yet becasue he hasn't received the results form the hospital yet... but will this delay my surgery??

I don't have an offical date yet but I'm worried it will push things back.

What is typical protocol? Put me on something for it now or wait until post op?

Any "been there, done that" would be very helpful!

How soon is your surgery? I don't think it will delay it unless it's in next few weeks. The Dr will probably order some meds and you should be fine by surgery. Stay away from NSAIDs! Good luck. Let us know what the Dr says!

I will have completed all of my requirements for insurance by September 20th and should know if Im approved within a couple of days after that. They told me that with approval then, Im looking at a November/ December surgery. So I have time, but I'm worried something will mess up an otherwise smooth process lol

I'm so excited to have the surgery and start new life long habits and after having it in the back of my mind for a couple of years I finally decided it was what's best for me, so now I have my heart set on it... and so far things have been going well, but the things beyond my control such as insurance approval is making me stressed and nuts lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
