For Those Who Work, How long were you off?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 7/13 and tried to return yesterday. I don't have stomach pains and my large incision isn't that sore. I had to leave 20 mins in because of shortness of breath and I felt really tired. When I got home, my doctor approved me for 4 weeks off. I thought I was 100% to go back but I was wrong.

Good thing you were granted additional time!

I am second guessing my decision to take just one week now. ????

Everyone is different...but I was told 4-6 weeks. I'm glad to have that long of an adjustment period.

1.5 weeks and I absolutely regret it. Im not due back until August 1, however I returned on 6/28. Surgery was 6/16. I really wish finances were better and I could take the full 6 weeks.

Why do I wish I could take longer? because I am physically tired...and adjusting with all the changes my body and mind are going through. It can be tough at times so take as much time off as you possible can.

My surgeon said 4-6 weeks off. I move around alot for my job...sometimes at my desk, but I drive to homes as well. The surgeon already mentioned lifting and driving restrictions as a general rule. He said that, in addition to pain, I have to get used to eating new because I'm always moving and food isn't readily available.

I was told to take off 4 weeks due to my job. I work in retail and do heavy lifting.

I took 3 weeks and could have gone back in 2. But I really liked the extra time for myself! I barely ever get it!

I have a boring desk job and I went back the same day I got discharged from the hospital. My husband drove me for a few days. Dresses only bc of incisions.

My doctor approved me for 2.5 weeks... that's how long I was out, and I was ready to go back to work at the tail end of it. I was getting kind of tired of being home all the time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
