A letter to yourself...

Recommended Posts

So I was searching around for useful tools that will help me with long term success. I came across several articles about writing your future self a letter. Has anyone done this? Has it worked? Thought? Any input would be appreciated. Below is a link to one of the sites I came across.

@@rgme1983, some people will say it's useful, others will say not. If you like the idea, go with your own feeling. You may want to write the letter and, as you go along and discover new things, rewrite or add to it. Do keep all previous versions in tact, though, as a map of your 'journey.'

You can do whatever strikes a chord for you.

I never thought about that. And thanks for your insight. I love hearing from everyones stand point.

I love this idea! Writing is such a wonderful way to get out your truth, apologize, recognize...let go of thoughts and renew ideas about the future.

@@rgme1983, instead of a letter, I'd begun a list of reasons that I want to lose weight. It's easy to add reasons as they occur over time. Each reason is narrow and specific, which makes it more achievable that a broad, all-encompassing reason. E.g., "To easily get down and up from the floor to play with babies" instead of "To move more easily." Being specific also allows for a lengthier list of reasons. Another reason, related to the above example but distinct from it, might be "To move past people standing still on narrow escalators." That is, anything related to agility. It's really exciting to check each off when accomplished along the way. Being slightly impatient at all about tracking the experience, I also like that list items don't need complete sentences.

I absolutely love this idea and wish I would've done this at my highest weight. I'm no where near close to goal though so I think I'm going to give it a shot. :)

@@WalkByFaith94, it's never too late for something like "A Letter to Myself." Even after reaching goal can serve a good purpose. Whether letters, my own preferred list of goals or any other form, they all are variations on a journal.

My surgeons office recommended the letter to my future self. It has been good to go back and re-read if I start having a rough day.

I don't know if this is the same. But I made a video two days after my surgery of myself talking to myself about what is to come and how to deal with it. And when ever I question why I did it or how I am going to go forward I get the strength I need from watching that video. It has helped me a lot I must say the best thing I did was making that video, helps me see where my mind was when I made this choice.

That's a great idea too. Very clever. For those of you who are tech savvy then that would be great. But then there's me who took a month to figure out how to use this app lol. Think I'll stick to the old fashioned pen and paper. Hahaha but yes very great idea and same concept.

I've been keeping a personal diary in a document that I store online. It is in s kind of blog form with most recent entries at the top. I also wrote a 'my story' that I wrote before the surgery as to why I wanted / needed it. Have found it helpful to read back through these.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
