I am having my surgery in 2 days and wasn't given a pre-op diet. Just to be on liquids the day before. Is this odd?

My surgeon told me I could forgo the pre-op diet but left it up to me if I wanted to do it. They said it was because I only gained one puns since I started my journey. I decided to do the diet BC I want to be on the safe side and shrink my liver i figure it couldn't hurt.

My pre op diet was normal food until one day before. That's becoming more common these days.

I also had no pre-op diet, just clears the day before as well. My surgeon said it was only important that I not be in a gaining cycle when I went into surgery. I mainly ate low carb and lost 9 lbs in the month before surgery. I'm a week post-op today.

How has your post op been so far?

I'm so close to my day and I'm curious since everyone seems to have such different experiences..

I'm doing pretty good. Gas pains the first couple of days. It was shocking how hard it was to get all my Fluid in! Today I can reach my goal fairly easily. I'm still on clear liquids but can add Protein shakes tomorrow. Aside from the gas pains, I haven't really had any pain. Only took pain meds to sleep the first two night at home. I'm actually at the beach with my whole family for a long ago planned vacation. I'm not going out on the beach during the hottest parts of the day but I can go in the evenings. Of course, I'm not going in the Water etc. Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
