I live in Ontario so RNY is covered by our provincial health care. The process varies depending on which hospital you choose. I was referred by my family doctor in February, and had orientation in April. At that appointment, they gave me the dates for the social worker and the nurse practitioner as well as a nutrition class.

Last Wednesday I met with the NP and it went so well. At the end of that appointment she told me that I only needed the psychologist and dietitian appointments and then I could meet the surgeon. She also told me I would get those appointments when I came in for the nutrition class on September 6. I told her I had hoped I would have those appointments sooner than that. Anyway, she said she would see what she could do.

On Thursday morning, the clinic called me to say they had moved up the nutrition class to July 25!! Dietition is August 24 and psychologist will be September 21. I'm so excited. Some people wait 18 months or longer for their surgery. It will still be close to a year, but this saved me about 2 months for sure.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
