I am scheduled for surgery on June 6 with Dr Borland. Super excited and a little nervous. Spent the last month lurking on this website just reading and absorbing all the wonderful information everyone has supplied. Just wanted to say thanks!

I am scheduled with him June 27th. Please keep us updated on how it goes! I am so curious about the experience with him.

How long were y'all at the surgery center? How did you feel after? How long at the hotel? Anyone that wants to share... I am just trying to be ready. Will have surgery at the end of June if all clear by my Dr.

I had a tough time before surgery because I was really dehydrated so my recovery was 8hrs long from them given me fluids. So make sure you drink lots the day before!!! Hotel was 3 days well 4 total counting the day before because we live 2hrs away. I stayed at the Candlewood. They give a surgery discount and have a recliner in each room which is where I slept. Think goodness for that because I try to lay in the bed but the gas pains were too intense and I couldn't. I felt so good after surgery that the next day I was out shoe shopping lol.

I just changed my hotel to Candlewood. Thank you, I didn't even think about the sleeping on a bed issue. Now I will have a recliner!

I defiantly will. Super excited but also getting a bit nervous. He doesn't require any kind of strict pre op diet but after reading so many people talking about their pre op diets I think I am going to go on a liquid diet starting tues (a week before my surgery)

I decided the same thing last night! So many other Dr. want you to shrink your liver for a safer surgery. I feel like we are in good hands, but it won't hurt to make it as easy as possible.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
