gpjess 15 Posted July 18, 2016 Preop and I guess this may qualify for after as well.. How do you know when it's just Water weight you're dropping or when it's more than that? Hard not to get excited when the scale goes down but sometimes it starts to creep back up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted July 18, 2016 I don't know that you really know other than watching for trends (for instance knowing when you retain Water or are getting ready to have your period). The best thing to do is to stay off the scale and not weigh very often if you tend to let the numbers on the scale drive you crazy and can't deal with small weight fluctuations. Early out I only weighed at my doctors appointments. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience weight fluctuations, slow downs, and stalls. needtorecover 574 Posted July 18, 2016 I have bad PMS - mood swings, cravings, bloat, the works. I *always* gain weight right around my period so I try to stay off the scale until the last day of my period or later. Just not worth the discouragement! Also try to consider if you consumed food that was saltier than usual the day before, or if you had a glass of wine. Alcohol and foods high in sodium lead to Water retention. WannabeH 114 Posted July 19, 2016 I'm a big believer in weighing every day. Because I know not getting on the scale for me gets me into big trouble. I have a problem with Fluid retention and my weight can fluctuate up to 4 pounds at any given time. I've learnt to have a lot of patience. Eventually I go down to a newest low, so I know the weight is still coming off.
