Feeling light headed when standing

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I had the sleeve done about 2 years ago. I wanted to see if anyone else has ever had this problem that I've had for awhile now. To start I haven't lost any where close to the weight I wanted but that's not the issue. My issue i when I'm standing for more than maybe 15 minutes I start feeling pain in my lower stomach maybe groin area and I get light headed, my hearing goes really muffled, and I get cold sweat and one time I passed out for a few seconds luckily about 40 of my friends were there to catch me. The time I passed out I was in Texas in the middle of a heat wave and even my friends who are from Texas said it was hot. I tried to ask my doctor but he said since I didn't go in when it happens it's hard to say.

Thank you for any advice.

I haven't. This is definitely a question for your doctor. I doubt it has anything to do with your sleeve since you have been sleeved for two years.

What does your blood pressure look like?

Are you staying hydrated?

My only reasonable advice is to see your primary doctor. If he's the one whom you "tried" to ask, he gave a poor response. Make an appointment so that you can get started with finding answers and solutions.

I am not a physician and have no training in the medical field. That said, some experiences I've had suggest that you may want a referral to an ENT, a.k.a. otolaryngologist. Lightheadedness after standing a while and muffled hearing might mean that you have an inner ear condition.

Lightheadedness may also be an indication of dehydration.

I have no thoughts at all about the pain in the "lower stomach maybe groin area." I will suggest, however, that, if you want potentially useful ideas from other BP members or from the doctors you may consult, you be accurate in the information you give. For example, having had sleeve surgery, you probably know that the stomach is not near the groin. If you mean the lower abdomen, you'll get better input and medical care if you use accurate terminology.

In my opinion you should ask your doctor. But I know that what happened to you is caused by a low blood pressure because it happened a lot to me. You should do the anxiety and the sugar tests and get a professional advice. With me the hypotension is cause by low sugar in my system, anxiety and anemia. Drink Water as much as u can.

Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
