My surgery was in February and I still struggle with lettuce. It's usually 50-50 on whether even a little bit will make me vomit. That being said, I have had a couple of good experiences with using lettuce in place of bread as a bun. What seems to work for me is eating a little bit to get the sandwich started and then kind of peeling the lettuce back like a banana (so that most of it ends of being discarded).

I've had no trouble with lettuce of any kind (romaine, rocket, iceburg) sticking. This is a relief as I was a salad hound before being banded! What kind of WLS did you get? I don't know if this makes a difference. For myself wtih the lap band it was about a month after starting back on regular food post-op before I braved a salad. I was very careful to chew, chew, chew but never experienced any troubles.

I ate lettuce once I was cleared for all foods. At first it filled me up really quickly, but I never had any issues with it

I was allowed to eat lettuce as soon as I was released for all foods. That being said, I did not tolerate it at first. It almost felt like it was piling up and not processing.

I kept trying each week and finally I was about 6 months post op before I tolerated it.

@@Djmohr This is exactly how lettuce (and carrots) make me feel. It's like they pile up in my pouch and just sit there for a while until they come back up. I'm giving myself a break from salads and will try again in a month of so. Fish did the same thing to me and I am glad to say after taking a break I'm at a point where small portions of salmon can be tolerated. It's nice to have a little variety.

I have been eating lettuce, mainly dark leafy greens or spinach since about 2 months out. It's not filling, so it's one of those slider foods.. but I've never had any issues with it.

I've seen the term "slider" food a few times now. What does that mean?

A food that's usually doesn't have any nutritional value that "slides" easily through your sleeve allowing you to consume larger portions. Sometimes it's not an issue and helpful to get your Protein (yogurt, creamed soups) but other times when it's popcorn, chips, ice cream, etc - it's not a good thing.

Are you chewing it thoroughly? That may be the problem.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
