Need help about what's some good ideas of food to eat on a 1200 calories diet

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I was informed by the nutritionist that I need to start changing my eating habits... Yay for, me to (start counting calories). I should only eat 1200 calories a day.

Even though I have yet to be approved for, weight loss surgery. My inclination of assumption would be... The nutritionist wants me not to wait until the last min then butting my body in shock; when the time prohibit for, me to be placed on the liquid diet.

Hopefully this make sense, because it sounded in my head lol

Can any or everyone give me some help! on how I'm going to only eat 1200 calories per day?? what could I eat?

Download myfitnesspal on your phone, you can eat just about anything you just have to learn how to plan ypur day around said amount of calories. Look up low calorie meals, you can do Protein Bars, granola bars, shakes or pretty much anything.

Pre op- volume mattered to me. Big salads, big stir fries, etc. made me feel like I could still eat plenty but it was all still low calorie.

Premier Protein shakes are only 160 calories and because they are packed with so much Protein they filled me up enough to replace a meal.

I have been on 1200 calories since I started this journey May 11. (I'm waiting for insurance approval and surgery date -- surgery should be in August). Here's my typical day:

Breakfast: Premier Protein shake (Vanilla) with 1/2 cup fresh strawberries and ice - 185 calories (31 grams protein)

Lunch: Large mixed green salad (3 cups), 1/2 cup chicken salad, 2 tablespoons Balsamic Vinagrette - 348 calories (24 grams protein)

Dinner: 6 oz grilled sirloin, 2 cups of salad with balsamic dressing, 1/2 cup rice - 456 calories (37 grams protein)

That leaves you 211 calories for Snacks through out the day. A hard boiled egg is about 80 calories. Go for Snacks high in Protein -- they fill you up. Avoid carbs.

My plan has called for my diet to be more than 80 grams of protein per day and no more than 7 grams of sugar per serving. Drink lots of Water -- separate your eating and drinking.

You will find that variations on this works. It may seem boring, but I find that for me if I settle into a food routine, I avoid making bad choices.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
