For hair loss I suggest garlic Shampoo and a garlic hot oil treatment, also if your dr gives the ok, add deodorized garlic supplements. I've not yet scheduled my surgery but I suffered from horrible Hair loss when I moved from Mississippi to Arizona.

You may be able to find Queen Helene or Nutrine Garlic Shampoo in your local Black BSS. If not, get it from Amazon. Good luck!

Sadly you can not prevent the hair loss. What you can do is help the regrowth by increasing your Protein . My NUT said to shoot for 90-100 grams.

I am 6 months out and finally my loss has slowed. My hairdresser said Thursday that my hair is really healthy (thanks to the added protein)

Take a deep breath and know that it is temporary and it will grow back.

This is great news.... (deep breath taken) I will definitely increase my protien... you know it's funny too because just today I said it seems like it's hard for me to hit my protien goal!! For the last week I've been around 70-80, when my Dr told me I should be aiming for 100!! I'm just gonna have to force down more shakes I guess!

My nutritionist has said if it is going to happen it will but the key to helping body deal with stress is Protein. Call it prevention on not but my hair and nails are growing like crazy since taking extra steps since pre-op and if that makes whatever is lost not seem dramatic I will take it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
