Well I'm 3 days post op it's not fun but it's not horrible. Maybe it's because of the surgery but I've been thinking a lot of my future I'm 27 and it's so much I want to do I want to go to college and I want to make friends other than my family and boyfriend I have no real friends, mainly because I'm very shy and I'm scared to actually talk to people when I get in crowds my anxiety kicks into overdrive so does anyone have any advice for me ?

Congrats on this side of the losers bench. When you start getting over to discussion of issues outside of WLS, everyone's opinion here is what it is. If you follow the program and you lose what I would expect you can lose, you will find you social circle will change. If it is for the good or ill, well that is up to you and how you utilize the new opportunities.

WARNING: In 27-57 days you may experience some strange feelings known as a hormone dump. Not everyone does, I sure as heck did. This means an increase in libido and other things. If you are planning, do NOT make any life changing decisions during this three to four month phase.

Please post in the powder room for more female perspective, but while I enjoyed my time there, I would not want to make it a lifetime preoccupation.

Start off by going to a WLS Support Group. You would probably benefit from therapy too. You're very young and have your life in front of you - you can do whatever you want! Start a list of all the things you want to do and work on accomplishing them! Take it slow! If you enjoy reading - join a book club. Join an online group for something that interests you and meet people online first to break the ice and then maybe get involved in person. Be active - if you're all hiking or walking it's less anxiety inducing! Enjoy life!!!

Isn't it great when you can start looking forward to the future with hope and optimism because of WLS?

You can do anything you want. We are sometimes the only thing holding us back.

Setting a goal, like going to college is very doable. It helps to break your goal down into small steps so it isn't as overwhelming.

This would be a great time to consider talking to a counselor or therapist if you don't already have one. A good counselor can help you to find ways to overcome barriers to reaching your dreams. Whether it is addressing your anxiety or learning new coping skills, one-on-one and group counseling would be a good start.

@biglady904 I hope you will take the advise of...

@KristenLe@Inner Surfer Girl

I really do think think they know what they are talking about. I am much older than you. I get it. I have my kids nearly out of the house and we are in a much different place, but I think their suggestions may be spot on. So please let them know if it was helpful.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
