Pain when having food

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have complete my surgery on Wednesday, I am having some pain (like cramp) every time I drink something.... Sometime, I even have the cramp while laying in bed.

Plus, I am still feeling hungry but don't want to overdose the new stomach capacity so I tend to stop drinking even if i am not full... Is that ok??

Try drinking something a different temperature. I found my new tummy spasmed with cold liquids right after surgery, but was fine with warm things.

Stick to measuring everything and staying on a schedule. Here is a sample

For most true hunger doesn't return for a while. What you will have is head hunger and acid that mimics hunger. Even dehydration can cause hunger feelings.

I am 4 wks out with RnY. I have yet to feel hunger or fullness. Have not had any issues with vomiting or nausea. I still measure my soft foods , but drink as much as I can--Much more than the 1 oz at a time for the first 10 days post-op--just not gulping it down. Have no issues with either temp extreme with liquids. Maybe I'm incredibly lucky...?

How about hunger? Am not able to know when I am getting full and in don't to risk drinking a lot...

Take small sips. Fluids go right thru your system so it's unlikely to feel full. I don't think there's any concern about drinking too much (unless it's a high calorie drink).

I have pain in my upper chest when I drink Water. I am 6 days out. I have to make sure and drink Water standing up. I'm ok with broth and Jello. I think it's just our stomach has changed and so has everything else.

I have same exact thing as you. Did you also do a hiatal hernia repair? I did and I think that is what's causing my chest to feel like that when I take something down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
