I am scheduled for my preop testing and physical at St Vincent, Carmel. The paperwork just says that it is a head to toe physical examination. Can anyone tell me what all that includes? I mean.....I'm wondering.....pelvic exam? That sort of thing? Just want to make sure I'm prepared for whatever they're going to do, lol.

It should not include a pelvic exam. They will do a full exam including neurological, cardiac (might do an EKG), abdominal, extremities (reflex response), respiratory.

@KristenLe- do you know if a pelvic exam is required prior to surgery? I haven't had one in about 4 years and now I'm starting to worry that I'll have to have one and push my surgery date back even more. :(

I don't think it will be required but I encourage you to get one soon - your health is important and you should be getting regular exams (I sound like your Mom!) Early detection can save your life!

I plan on having one as soon as I can after surgery. I've been having so many appts (had to do 6 months physician guided weight loss- 2 visits/month) between trying to satisfy requirements for this procedure and things with my kids (orthodontist, dentist, dermatologist, work, etc) that I've been trying to prioritize to get this surgery out of the way. But you are absolutely right- the whole point of this surgery is that I'm trying to put my health first for a change, and that includes the dreaded pelvic exam, lol. I'll get it scheduled ;)

After I got my date, my surgeon's office said I need to get my primary care doctor to give me an exam and clear me for surgery. My surgery was postponed from january, I had a clearance from then, but needed it again.

But the surgeons office had ordered my blood work and ekg a couple weeks ago. So I asked what does my PCP need or what is he doing. (BTW, I'm also scheduled for a pre-op appt with my surgeon and anesthesia a couple day prior to my august surgery). Anyway, she said you know just to check and make sure you aren't sick and it has to be within 30 days of surgery. So off I go Thursday for this appointment and sure enough, they want to see what his orders are. Of course trying to get the surgeons office at 8 am is near impossible. So it was a cluster. He did give me another ekg, accepted the blood work documentation I brought in, he also ordered a chest xray (because my previous one was from January. I left. The surgeon's office called back and told him they really just needed a check up. They were going to accept my old chest xray. I am glad I got an updated one and an updated ekg.

The bottom line, is make sure you have some type of order that goes over to your primary. Another patient came in who was having orthopedic surgery and the same thing, the doctor made him call his surgeon and send over "the order" of what he needed done.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
