I'm going to the movies for the first time since surgery. I'm 3 weeks post op. I have a weakness for movie theater popcorn... Like I used to get a large with my husband and finish it and maybe refill. Any ideas for what I can bring? I'll bring my Crystal light lemonade probably, but idk what to snack on. I probably won't want anything, but I need an option

I have learned I really don't need a snack, especially if I can drink Water. Plain ice water at most movie theaters is really cheap if not free if you don't want to bring a bottle yourself.

My advice? When I was first post op, I needed to eat all day to get in even half of my Protein requirements. If that's you, take a Protein Drink.

If that's not you, get out of the habit of snacking unnecessarily. It's a bad habit and one that is difficult to break.

If you must have something, a cheese stick, grapes, grape tomatoes, olives...

When you can have firmer foods, beef Jerky is my snack of choice along with almonds.

I took a Greek Yogurt with a plastic spoon to watch Secret Life of Pets. It practically lasted me the whole movie. (I didn't forget to take a few deep sniffs of my husband's popcorn but the batch smelt a bit stale so I didn't even feel like I was missing out).

Water. I found it entirely possible not to need to snack during a movie.

I am heading to movie as well just shy of 4 weeks post op. I am sticking with Protein shake per @lipsticklady. Also because time of day I am going that is what I would be eating/drinking, so trying to stay on schedule. Will bring Water as well.

We are going early to morning show so family will bring Snacks not eat popcorn which is nice to avoid temptation/depression about popcorn for me!

Im almost three weeks out and ive been to the movies twice since surgery. Preop i would have popcorn, a slurpee, sometimes nachos. And let me tell you. When i went in both times I was dying to just buy what i use to buy and just taste them! But i didnt. The first time it was during my first week post op and i just took my Jello and Water as Snacks. The second time which was yesterday i just had water and a Protein Shake. It was hard believe me. But after a while i got so into the movie. It didnt even faze me.

Good for you. I have no doubt you will be successful.

Can anyone think of a better example of "grazing" than eating while watching a movie in a dark theater?

I can't.

Take the opportunity to break yourself of the habit/conditioning that movie = snack. It will take some work, but you will be grateful later that this hard wired connection is gone!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
