What does your doctor consider a "puree"?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost done with week 1 of purees and I'm having a hard time because there's not much to eat. My doctor told me a puree is something that can be sipped through a straw, and soft foods are purees with some chunks.

So not sure if you mean liquid + stage (which for me was week 2 post op) or mushy phase as my nut calls it week 3-6. During liquid+ I got to add creamy Soup and yogurt. In the latter stage i got to add cottage cheese, eggs, deli meat, limited veggies, and "soft meat."

My doctor had one week full liquids after surgery, 2 weeks purees, 2 weeks soft foods, then back to regular foods. I've eaten some soft scrambled eggs and chicken salad and both have gone down fine. I just make sure to chew it down to a mush before swallowing

Does anyone know how to make your chicken salad without mayo?

My surgeon said during my 4 week follow-up appointment, "As you move forward please keep in mind to puree with your teeth, my friend, chew things very, very well".

Made perfect sense to me then.....and I followed accordingly.

I don't chew as much now as then......and it's something that I should get back to. It slows down eating and you'll enjoy the flavors more......and actually eat less. It's a good habit to get into now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
