Wedding Ring

Recommended Posts

My parents got married a month out of high school, and my mom's wedding set was $200 total.. They are now very well off and run their own business.. and my dad has mentioned several times getting her a new set, but she won't let him because of the sentiment. My wedding set is fancier than hers! But, he did get her a beautiful sapphire & diamond ring for an anniversary to wear on her other hand, that completely outshines her originals rings.

And about the bad luck.. my mom had her rings resized when she got arthritis, and they've been married 30 years as of last week.. PFF on bad luck!

Since I have started to lose weight, my wedding band and engagement Ring are getting very loose. I friend is superstitious and said that it is bad luck to have your wedding band resized. I don’t want to stop wearing them but, they have already come off my finger a couple of times. At present I am wearing then on my middle finger. Should I wait until I am down near goal weight to have them resized, do it now, or not have the wedding band resized at all. ffice:office" />

How have other married bandsters dealt with this?

Hi Fred,

Go to your nearest TRU-VALUE hardware store and get some soft vinyl tubing (Ask for assistance from the clerks).

Because my wedding band is very big (Who would have thought it?) I used 1/4 inch interior diameter tubing. Cut off about an inch of the tubing, it's soft, so you will need an EXACTO-KNIFE or a razor blade (Be CAREFUL!) to cut the tubing. Then make a lengthwise cut down the tubing so the tubing wraps around your wedding band.

With the amount of vinyl tubing that comes in the smallest roll, you will be able to make hundreds of ring-sizers.

Another alternative is WAL*Mart, they sell ring sizers in their jewelry department.

What you are looking for is called a ring guard. Any jewelry store that does repairs shoudl have them .

If you get one in what is called "base metal" they are about $5. You can also get them in gold if you have skin problems for about $20.

I have been wearing one and they are perfect. They are soft enough that you can bend them inward as your fingers shrink.

This is what they look like. Note the little peice of metal at the bottom of the ring. They come in many different sizes based on what you need for your rings.

See ringlock.com to modify your ring to fit perfectly over the knuckle where you want it to sit. With a ringlock you can remove your ring anytime in total comfort.

Be careful with the ring guards like shown above. I had one on my anniversary band and it scratched the hell out of it ! I like the vinyl tubing idea myself. When i had the ring guard on mine it really bothered me as well, scratched me , maybe i did not have a good one or something ?

Hi Fred, I think it would be worse luck to actually loose your rings when you have lost the weight than to not get them resized because of some superstition. If your marriage is good changing ring sizes isn't going to ruin that. Good luck. Don't stop loosing weight just to make the rings fit again lol.

My rings were getting loose also. One way to take care of that is go to Wal-Mart and they have plastic little things that can be put on the band of your ring to make it smaller. Ask the jewelry department. Next, I went to a jewelry store because I was going to go ahead and have it taken down in size. She told me they could put a metal piece inside the band for the cost of six dollars. Both worked great but I prefer the metal band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
