My last class is next Wednesday and I talked to the gentleman at my Dr office because I haven't heard back about my edg to get it done and he said he could put me on the schedule for August 26 at 8 am he said he sees my last class is next wed I said yes sir he goes well I will submit all your paperwork to your insurance and if everything goes well we will do your gastric bypass on the same day as the edg I'm so freaking stoked right now!!! Prayers and positive thoughts and vibes would be greatly appreciated

These are good lists and close to what I brought. The things I really used while in the hospital were: phone/charger, Chapstick, a couple of magazines, flip flops, comfortable clothes to wear home, and a hairbrush with rubber band.

I had my VSG on 6/30 and it helped that I had a small pillow to hold against my abdomen when riding home so when my husband hit bumps in the road it didn't hurt as bad and with having the seat belt on.

@@Carissa05 has good advice. The hubs brought me a pillow and I sandwiched it in half under the seatbelt. It made the 2 hour ride home a lot more tolerable.

Under the General Weight Loss Forum, subforum General Weight Loss Surgery Discussion, there is a thread re: the "official" list of what to pack for surgery. It is 38 pages long! Although it was started in 2010, there are more recent posts, too. It took me hours to go through it, but I learned ALOT.

Hope this helps.

My RNY is Monday, & I've almost finished packing & preparing food for my family, cleaning house, paying bills, etc. Whew!

I am 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery and I do not even remember what I took. It was very minimal. I think the most important thing was my wife. The hospital I was in allowed your spouse to be there overnight. She helped me get around when I did my walking every couple hours. I will recommend that when you check into the hospital make sure that they put a trapeze bar on the bed. This will help you get in and out of the bed.

I brought a lot of stuff from lists I read on here... What I actually used was, a extension cord for my phone charger, toothbrush, clothes for the ride home and flip flops, my hair stayed in a bun the whole time..... I didn't experience gas but I did bring the gas x strips in case... My hospital had a movie network on there tv's so I just tried to rest.... But they come in so often it's impossible!

@@Michilingi the Biotene spray is great. My mouth was super dry after surgery. I use a cpap machine and at night I spray it because sometimes the machine dries my mouth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
