What NSVs are you looking forward to?

Recommended Posts

Pre-ops and new post ops, what non scale victories are you most looking forward to?

Me, Im looking forward to the usual, being able to sit in chairs with arms, airplane seats with no seat belt extender, shopping for clothes in regular stores, etc. I'm also looking forward to:

Shaving behind my knees and getting it all

Being able to paint my toenails myself

Sitting at my job without my butt falling asleep

Not hurting everyday

Being able to actively help on our sailboat and not feeling like a beached whale on deck.

Going on a bike ride with my boyfriend and making it more than 2 miles.

Kayaking

(I'll post others as I think of them)

Walking up and down the stairs and up the huge hill to get to my classes.

Being able to wear clothes that fit me, and feeling comfortable/pretty in them.

Amusement parks and roller coasters! Haven't been able to fit into a seat since I was maybe 13...

Fitting into the tiny chairs/desks at school, including the classroom ones and the ridiculous auditorium ones.

Being able to go for a jog without destroying my knees.

Certain sex positions (already met this goal and it's great!)

Being able to sit on a chair or wall-mounted toilet without fear that I will break it.

Being able to walk out into public without feeling like everyone is staring at me.

Being able to sit in a folding chair or lawn chair without breaking it.

I had many, many more but I've met pretty much all the others! Great post... it's good to remind yourself how far you've come and how wonderful life has become after this long, difficult, but intensely rewarding journey! :)

@@Deehovey we're all adults here! Sex is a normal and natural part of life, and it's no secret that losing weight affects it in a lot of ways, physical and emotional alike. :D Let me just say (here's a little more tmi lol!) that as a woman, being on top for the first time was unnerving but ultimately an experience I will never forget. I was missing out! :P

These help me to stay focused while waiting for surgery...

- Not sweating bullets just by moving (right now people look at me like I'm going to drop dead in front of them!).

- Being happy to have my picture taken (I broke down and posted a picture of myself with my great niece last night because I figured - yup - I'm fat - no point hiding that from people).

- Better and more sex (hopefully my BF will be "up" for it too)

- kayaking, paddle boarding

- wearing a pair of tight, worn out, sexy levi's

- wearing a sexy dress (slip style) and high heels

- not being in constant pain (being able to exercise or be active without hurting something)

- riding the jetski with my boyfriend (we recently went on vacation and everyone got a ride except me)

- not worrying about fitting in a seat or booth at a restaurant, sports event, concert

There's so many more....

Getting back into my pretty clothes I bought when I hit my first goal of 160. I was bad and gained some back but I'm on the way back down again. Yay!

Tying my shoes without getting out of breath, not having to wear a cami under all my clothing, pretty underwear, wearing my wedding rings, my watch fitting, and not being in pain

Looking forward to not ruining my shoes from my fat feet walking on the side of them... Does anyone else have that issue? Especially flats...

A few NSV's I have enjoyed so far:

Not needing an extender for the airplane seatbelt (for that matter, fitting comfortably in the airplane seat)

Not hiding when it's time for pictures (and not freaking if someone posts them on social media)

Being able to buy a "regular" size bra that doesn't require special order/shopping at a specialty store for the size

Ohhh sitting comfortably on an airplane

Being able to finally get IVF

Being on a roller coaster again

Going into the 'normal' shops and buying what I want

Riding a bike without being embarrassed

Wearing heels!!

Omg I totally have this same problem!!! And if I walked for too long of a distance, my feet would sometimes go numb from all the weight on the outer sides.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
