Tired, hungry and sick feeling ALL THE TIME

Recommended Posts

This is going to sound like a complaint I'm sure, but I don't intend it to be. I'm grateful for the surgery, I needed it BUT, I feel tired and sick all the time!!!!! Surgery was 6/29 but every minute that i am awake I feel sick and lethargic. I have no energy and I have these weird uncomfortable feelings in my stomach whether I've eaten or not. My body feels foreign to me and I wasn't expecting that. I haven't had a bowl movement in 3 days, I can't sleep, it takes me 6 hours to drink 24 ounces of Water. I can't seem to get all of my Protein in no matter how hard I try and I almost avoid eating or drinking because I'm tired of feeling sick ALL the time. Anyone else going through this????

No that's not my experience at all. You need to call your center. I had RNY on 6/27 and had surgery complications and a brutal first week post op. My recovery was rough but I feel great now and have zero nausea or pain. I'm able to drink my Water and Protein very easily. I just started puréed food a few days ago and having no problems. I wonder if you're low on Iron?

I had an easy time of it so I don't have any advise really but I do agree you should talk to your doctor

I'm so sorry your feeling bad but I also was terribly sick the first 4 months or so nausea, tired, just plain old sick. My surgeon said some people it just happens to and it will get better. I didn't really believe it but eventually it did get better, but at 1.5 yrs out I still am very sensitive. But it's all good. The mental thing is still hard cause I want more food in my head but my tummy say ooohhh noooo!!! Lol I just take one day at a time. Good luck with your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
