I'm now on phase 5 which says "regular textures." Examples given are moist solid Protein such as chicken, beef, pork, fish and shrimp. fruit and vegetables as tolerated. So my question is, which fruits and veggies should I try first? I was half tempted to eat some raw green bell peppers that I cut up for my son earlier but I caught myself and figured that might be a bit too crunchy yet. I've read others on here say that salad didn't go over very well till about 6 months, otherwise I'd love to go with that. My book ends it's advice here so until I get to my first support group to ask, I figured I'd ask you guys.

What veggies worked well for you at about 1 month post op? Anything that DIDN'T go over well? I'm supposed to "avoid carbs" and I'm trying to limit sugar as much as possible as well. I admit, I've never been very big on cooked veggies unless they were buttered or topped with cheese. I've always loved raw veggies though. With that in mind, what would you recommend?

How about roasting some veggies?? I have them almost every day.

I use:

Brussel sprouts

or

Carrots

or

Cauliflower

or

beans--green

or

zucchini

or

snap peas

I put them on a cookie sheet with just a spray of olive oil. then I add crushed fresh garlic (I love garlic, so I use a whole bulb). I then add two Tblspns of nutritional yeast (it adds a cheesy flavor plus 7-8g of protein), salt, pepper. rosemary and thyme or Mrs. Dash. and/or lemon pepper.

Pop it into the over at 425 degrees for about 24min.--flipping them over half way through.

They're a wee bit softer than raw, but not mushy.

Try it and let me know what you think.

Good luck, and happy veggie hunting. :)

That actually sounds delicious! I think I will have to try that tomorrow. I've never been much of a cook either so thanks for the directions lol!

Go crazy trying different veggies. This time year with all of the veggie stands popping up everywhere, fresh veggies are inexpensive.

My eight year old grandson makes roasted carrots using the recipe above. It's easy and fun.

Tomorrow is Farmers' Market here in town. Kaleb wants to try green tomatoes. Why not? I think we will use added lemon on those.

I love it that he wants to cook.

I struggled with veggies that had skins or were fibrous, e.g. cherry tomatoes or sting Beans. Definitely experiment but overall moist, soft veggies worked best for me initially, e.g. sauteed zucchini or veggies that I overcooked a bit.

Good: spinach - steamed and served with light butter, or sauteed with olive oil and lots of garlic (my favorite!)

Bad: raw baby carrots

I've had some grilled zucchini and oven-roasted broccoli, I make it pretty much the way Valentina described. Just chew it very well and eat your Protein first :)

salad has not bothered me, and strawberries I can eat 3 berries. Watermelon helped with my thirst, but I would have to remove what was left after I got the juice out. A little Soup with veggies is a good start.

I started with some of the softer veggies, like cooked zucchini, peeled cucumber, and green peas. As for fruits, I love watermelon, mangoes, blueberries, and unsweetened apple sauce, but can only eat very little fruit at a time.

Whole Foods has in bulk cheaper than packages. Braggs is a name brand you see a lot. I think you can get it from Amazon. Possibly Vitamin stores but not sure on that.

It adds a nice flavor and a dash of Protein.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
