Deehovey 48 Posted July 14, 2016 (edited) So I had a phone consult with my surgeon's office yesterday and today the insurance lady emailed me with what my insurance requires, which is just a psych visit and a nutritionist visit. I could be having surgery within a month. However right now I've got a high deductible plan with a really really high out of pocket maximum so it would end up costing me about $7000. If I wait until January (more likely February)to get pre-op requirements out of the way) then my max out of pocket would be $3900. So I need to wait, but I also keep thinking is 6 months of my life with better health worth $3k? I've got good credit. I've got available credit... Arghh! I'm not good at patience! Deehovey 48 Posted July 14, 2016 Oh, and by mid-January I would have $3900 in my health savings account. There is only $2500 in it now. So it would be more like $4000 out of pocket. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App
Deehovey 48 Posted July 15, 2016 Discussed it with my boyfriend. I really have to wait til next year. Patience is not one of my best virtues. I do need to work on myself in the meantime. I need to start logging my food, cutting down on carbs, find a PCP (healthy fat person here, I have never had a regular doctor besides my ob/gyn.) I just have to find the strength to wait it out. ???? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

Deehovey 48 Posted July 15, 2016 Oh I'm sure it will be 6 months and a few weeks. When I told insurance lady I was changing plans in Jan she basically said, 'okay hit us up when it goes into effect.' Christinamo7 4,042 Posted July 15, 2016 I had to wait due to reasons other than financial, so I spent that time getting my mind wrapped around the changes I was making and coming to terms with everything. so, it will pass quickly and just focus on getting ready, in that way you will be spending the time productively and not just waiting. looking forward to hearing about your progress! KristenLe 5,979 Posted July 15, 2016 @@Deehovey My journey has been slower than I had hoped too. I've taken this time to prepare for post-op living and get my emotional eating issues under control. Take advantage of the time!! Good luck!
milpreve 38 Posted July 15, 2016 I had to do six months of supervised dieting for my insurance. I actually loved that experience because I got to practice my post-surgery rules and learn a lot about what I eat. And I dropped 20 pounds! It's worth the wait, but why not see if your center offers something similar to help pass the time? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App That's why I contacted them this early, in case it was required. They said my insurance didn't require it and since I'm not local to the surgeon I didn't ask if they had a program I could do "just because." I will go back onto MyFitnessPal again and try to lose a few pounds between now and then. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App
kelliev2015 136 Posted July 16, 2016 I had 6 months of medically supervised weight loss and it flew by! I was so bummed and impatient too and I can't believe how fast it went by. It'll be here before you know it!
milpreve 38 Posted July 16, 2016 Good thinking! I have the luxury of living less than half an hour from my excellent team. I forget that everyone isn't so lucky. I'll blame the pain meds. Best wishes as you wait! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
