Need advise/loan pending/Self Pay ?

Recommended Posts

Please note: I posted this message under finance and insurance as well:

My insurance will not cover the cost of WLS, so therefore I had to take out a hardship withdrawal from my employer's healthplan. The loan is pending, based upon the surgery being medically necessary followed with a statement from the doctor. My doctor will willing to do the surgery using the selfpay option. I have a BMI of 40 but no commodities. I am soo afraid that I will be denied, this is my last hope. Not sure how to get around this hurdle. I am sure that bariatric WLS will be looked at as cosmetic. Any suggestions, before I contact my MD? Has anyone else been faced with this obstacle?

Bariatric Pal has Medical Tourism packages for Tijuana MX. Contact bill@bariatricpal.com and he can go go over all the options. My revision from sleeve to Mini Gastric Bypass costs $5399 plus my airfare.

Do you have a retirement account? My retirement account allows me to take out loans against my retirement up to 45% of the total invested. Then I am basically paying myself back with interest (TIAA-Cref takes a small percentage). It's how I was able to get the money for my self-pay in Mexico.

You don't need any comorbidities with a BMI over 35, you'll be fine just have faith.

@@Beajay Have you heard back weather or not you were approved for the 401K medical hardship withdraw? I'm in the same boat as you and wasn't sure if it would be approved, I was told it may be consider cosmetic surgery & if so it will be denied. I have a BMI of 35 with no commodities. And since I don't meet my insurance requirements. Self pay is my only other option & Mexico has better VSG pricing compared to the United States.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
